10 Reasons Every Woman Should Shave Her Head at Least Once
I’ll never forget the day I buzzed the hair off my head for the first time; the excitement of watching my hair fall to the floor and then, finally, the sound of the clippers buzzing away what was left in neat little rows. I kept my head buzzed for years, alternating it between a cute bob, then shaving the back of my head into what’s known as a chelsea. Finally, after growing it out for a few months I got the urge to just take it all off and I did.
I think every woman has thought of shaving their hair off at least once in their life. I know that when I went around bald and proud, women of every age and style would come up to me to admire and compliment not only my bold hairstyle but my bravery. When you have no hair on your head, there’s nothing to hide behind – your entire face is out in the open – and there’s something about that that just made me feel good.
There are a lot of different reasons why every woman should shave her head at least once.
One of the most obvious benefits of having no hair is how easy it is! The time it takes for you to get ready in the morning will most likely be cut in half because you won’t have to style your hair. Of course, you can still dress up your look with a cute headband, hat or scarf!
As all of us women know, having hair can be expensive! From regular trips to the salon, to the price of products we use, the cost really adds up. If you have a shaved head though, you don’t need to spend any money on it.
There are a lot of kind, generous people out there you grow their hair out regularly to get it snipped off and donate it to be made into wigs. Of course you don’t have to cut it all off to donate, but the more hair, the longer the wig, so why not try it?
Then there are people who buzz their heads as a way to raise money for charity. You go around collecting donations leading up to the day you shave your head, and then give that money to a charity, usually for cancer.
Donating your hair and raising money are both awesome ways to help people with cancer, but sometimes the simple act of raising awareness can have a huge impact. A lot of people shave their heads when someone close to them is going through chemotherapy. Even if you don’t know anyone personally, the act of doing it to spark conversation and awareness around cancer is a noble one.
Of course, there are some people who simply need a fresh start of their own when it comes to their hair. After years of dying, straightening, curling and crimping, hair gets pretty damaged. Sometimes irreparably so. Shaving it off can be the perfect way to get back to healthy hair.
A shaved head can definitely be a new hairdo for a lot of women. Even as it begins to grow out you can try a multitude of hairstyles from a cute pixie, to a feisty bob and eventually long, flowing layers. Shaving your head gives you the opportunity to try out a whole slew of new hairstyles!
Summer can be the greatest season to many, but it’s also extremely damaging to our hair. Sometimes it’s just plain frustrating! Pools can turn our hair green, the sun leaves it dry, and the humidity makes it frizz. Buzzing your head for the summer will take away the stress of a bad hair day, just remember to wear a cute hat!
While a lot of women might think that having a shaved head will leave them feeling self-conscious or ugly, I know from experience that it can actually boost your confidence. It’s all about the attitude and how you present yourself, and having a shaved head might just give you that edge you’ve been needing.
It Feels Awesome!
Finally, having a shaved head feels awesome! It definitely feels freeing, but it also feels awesome, as in literally! You’ll want to rub your fuzzy head all the time!
